December 17, 2010 - Christmas Season in the Alberta Foothills

I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and all the very best to you during this holiday season.

This is my first blog, so a short preview of what is to come is appropriate.  The content of the blogs will focus mainly on legal issues, with personal and community commentary added as well.

It is a special time of year where giving is more important than receiving, where it is important to ask ourselves what can I do to help others or as simple as what can I do to make their day better.  It does not matter how little or how much we have, or how little or how much they have, there is always a way we can do something to make someone else's day better.  It could be as simple as smiling and telling someone you appreciate their efforts, their work; or it could involve committing volunteer hours at the food bank, or helping teenagers in the local youth group or seniors, or helping with community events such as Christmas Lite-up or parade day; or maybe it is helping a neighbour with their car or shoveling their snow.  Whatever talent you have or skill you have you know someone will appreciate your contribution.

There are many, many wonderful people throughout our communities of Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Okotoks, Millarville, Priddis, Longview and the M.D. that I have met over the years and I know they are many very generous and conscientious people.  There is no shortage of hard-working community-minded people in the Foothills who go out of their way to help strangers as well as friends and neighbours.

This is the time of year when, not only should we reflect on and appreciate our blessings, and we all have many blessings, but also on how our blessings can help others.  So spread the Christmas cheer.     Merry Christmas!

RECENT BLOGS

November 11, 2011 - Remembrance Day, Alberta, Canada

The Ode of Remembrance:

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.

They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

Lest we forget.

We will remember them.
